Overview
Idle Boss Slayer is a single-screen browser idle action game where one hero auto-attacks an endlessly respawning boss and player taps add damage. Gold from defeated bosses funds upgrades, new skills, and a steadily more capable build. The prototype is designed for short desktop and phone sessions while keeping the next meaningful decision visible.
Problem
The design challenge was to make an idle loop satisfying without burying the player in early complexity. Combat needs to remain readable while boss health, rewards, upgrades, milestones, skills, and blessing choices introduce enough change to reward attention. The game also acts as a practical testbed for a future online layer, but that layer remains deliberately disconnected from the offline prototype.
Technical approach
The game is built with Vite and TypeScript around a deterministic simulation that separates state, combat, upgrades, skills, and presentation. A typed event layer lets the interface react to hits, rewards, and boss phases without mixing those concerns into simulation rules. Versioned browser storage preserves progress and supports migrations, while the rendering layer adapts the arena and controls for landscape and portrait screens.
